I have recently become involved with measuring and characterizing stream channel instability in upstate New York, as part of a focused effort by Upper Susquehanna Coalition and Otsego County's Soil & Water Conservation District. Some of the pieces of this puzzle that I work on include migration of meander bends, streamflow frequency and work done by the stream, and high resolution 3D mapping of channel banks using structure-from-motion photogrammetry.
This study created a database of a broad spectrum of inorganic constituents in local drinking water wells as a means of establishing a baseline of water chemistry. We started out looking at drinking water wells, then started sampling seeps, springs, and dug wells, and then moved into bulk geochemistry of various rock units scattered across Otsego County New York.
