When it comes to inspiration for Disney theme park attractions few themes have been explored as much as history; particularly American history. Walt loved his country and the principles it was founded on. The people, places, and innovations that shaped America have long been the subject of attractions past, present, and never seen. From the founding of the nation, the exploration of its natural wonders, and the spirit of new ideas that has permeated the American story have created some of the most beloved experiences found at the Disney park; it’s that same spirit that is the foundation of the Land of Yesterday section of the park.
World of Yesterday is dedicated to the way the Disney parks have sought to tell the American story in a way that both entertains and informs. The land is made up of 6 smaller sections each inspired by a period in American history that has been the subject of Disney attractions that have been retired or never made into reality. A diverse array of family friendly rides and shows help to craft an educational narrative about the country without shying away from the times we have fallen short of our greatest ideals. While only a few of the land elements are specifically pulled from the fabled Disney’s America project; the idea of telling the country’s story in this way is very much inspired from perhaps the most famous never-built gate. From long missed favorites to never before realities each element of the park is reimagined to provide a truly unique experience fitting for this park.
