I has a vain and narcissistic nature and believes she is the best letter of the alphabet. She likes to sing, though often without considering whether it is appropriate or not. She is also seen wanting to be a "know-it-all" type of person, trying to convince the others that she has the answer to their problems when in most cases, she doesn't. She makes unreasonable, bossy demands, further supported in episodes Dot and Outlaw. Despite I's loudness and arrogance, the majority of Alphablocks actually acknowledge her talent.

In Mine, she does get some character development, allowing the other Alphablocks to use her name, I, and showing that she does care about her friends.

And in Making Friends, she gets into an argument with Three due to not wanting the Numberblocks to stay on Alphaland. But after getting over their rivalry, they become friends.

I once lost her dot in Dot. This reveals the fact that dotless I sings in a very poor high-pitched voice, because "[she's] not I without [her] dot."
- Dotless I is a letter of its own in Turkic languages. This makes her dotless version be the only letter not used in English except in typography.
