Computer hard disks make use of magnetic properties to store data.
A CD or DVD is a piece of plastic with a silver coloured layer of aluminium with tiny bumps. The CD or DVD drive uses laser to detect these bumps and translate them into data.
USB Flash Drives, ThumbDrives, Memory Cards (CF cards, microSd cards).
Digital audio players use flash memory.
A huge advantage of flash memory is that it is a solid-state storage device with no moving parts unlike a hard disk.
