LBJ: A LIFE IN POLITICS

Lyndon Johnson had a long and successful career in politics. He is one of two men to have served as Congressman, U.S. Senator, Vice President, and President. Richard Nixon was the only other politician to have done so.

It was this service record, and the approval of those who voted for him, that lead Lyndon Johnson to the Vice Presidential position alongside President John F. Kennedy. In one of the closest elections in American history, Kennedy and Johnson defeated Richard Nixon and Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. on November 8,1960 .
