Standard 2: The competent teacher has an in-depth understanding of content area knowledge that includes central concepts, methods of inquiry, structures of the disciplines, and content area literacy. The teacher creates meaningful learning experiences for each student based upon interactions among content area and pedagogical knowledge, and evidence-based practice.
Rationale:
This lesson plan was created in my AEDU 454 seminar class, during my time student teaching. This lesson plan was during our flag football unit.
Standard two is addressed in this assignment because it gives students an opportunity to learn a new activity for some and a refresher for others. I believe this lesson gave the students a meaningful experience. As we teach our students new concepts, it is important to understand they all come from different backgrounds and may not have all been exposed to this specific sport or sports in general.
This assignment helped me realize that there really are students who aren't exposed to sports because certain things are not as important as others in different cultures. I was able to give students a chance to learn about the sport through different vantage points. They were able to learn how to work as a team to accomplish one goal, in this case scoring a touchdown.
Rationale:
This lesson plan was created during my AEDU 454 seminar class, while student teaching. This lesson plan was for my Varsity P.E. class during one of our weight lifting days.
Standard two is addressed in this assignment because it gives students an opportunity to expand their knowledge of their muscles and how they can be built from certain lifting exercises. With these students being upper classman, and apart of varsity sports they are familiar with many of the exercise movements.
This assignment helped me to engage with students through one on one interactions. I was able to critique and assist students with proper form and technique during their exercises.
