Enhance your college readiness. If you are going into CS or a related major, colleges want to see your engagement in your field of interest in high school. This competition provides you the opportunity to prepare for college-level computer science and demonstrate an interest in the field.
Prepare for the AP Computer Science A exam. UIL problems are intentionally inspired by AP CS A exam questions. This competition is the single best way to prepare for the test apart from studying, since it essentially covers all the knowledge found in a full practice exam.
Apply your coding skills to compete with others. This competition will sharpen your mind and provide you with a way of competing with like-minded students.
Compete regardless of your skill level. No advanced knowledge is needed. If you know Java at a beginner level, you will be able to solve many problems.
Practice for competitions such as UIL CS and USACO. This practice competition will be formatted exactly like a UIL computer science competition. Furthermore, it will provide you with an opportunity to practice for other coding competitions, including the world-famous USACO competition.
Get PIZZA!
Monday, March 10th during lunch in Mr. Mueller's room (multiple choice portion)
Tuesday, March 11th during lunch in Mr. Shockey's room (problem solving portion 1)
Thursday, March 12th during lunch in Mr. Mueller's room (problem solving portion 2)
It is strongly recommended that you attend all three dates (but not required), because they form a cohesive competition block. Every day is the next stage in the competition, and you will only get a full score if you attend every day. However, we encourage you to attend, even if you cannot make it one or two days. You will still get your score back for the portion of the competition that you completed.
Any LASA student. Basic knowledge of coding in Java is recommended, because problems are based on UIL Computer Science questions, which are about Java.
All parts of the competition are completed individually. The multiple choice portion is a standard UIL Computer Science multiple choice problem set. The two free response portions are a single UIL Computer Science free response problem set split in half. Take a look at the UIL Computer Science Website for more information.
