Learning to secure the cyber
The club is still going, even as the official season has wrapped up. We have begun a new series of "off-season" meetings about cybersecurity and exploiting vulnerabilities in computer systems. These are interesting lectures that tie into real life and broaden your understanding of cybersecurity as a whole.
Every Thursday during lunch in room 505 (regular meetings).
Competitions happen on Fridays after school and are based on the official CyberPatriot schedule. There are four rounds of competition before National Finals that span October through January.

CyberPatriot is an international secondary school competition about cybersecurity, system hardening, and computer-related problem-solving. Teams assemble a group of up to five to defend and secure multiple systems in each competition. Rounds occur throughout fall and partway through the spring, culminating in the National Finals competition in Maryland. Each round, your team is placed in the midst of a cybersecurity crisis which you must contain and mend within four hours.
During the competition, teams work to remove viruses, secure databases, ensure settings are correct, audit users and policies, identify backdoors, and much more. They will work with Windows 10, Windows Server, Ubuntu, and Cisco Packet Tracer in the first three rounds, with the semifinals adding Debian or Fedora.
The best way to learn about this exciting, fun, and challenging competition is to experience it yourself, starting with the training and practice rounds. Contact a club representative to learn more!
During the 2023–2024 season we had outstanding results, with one team even making national finals in Bethesda, Maryland.
