Tables are arranged in workstations for students to work in groups of 2 or 4. Baskets with pencils, scissors and calculators are on each table. Artifacts of past classes and signs with workstation names hang from the ceiling. Visual displays and a whiteboard are on the back wall. Materials are stored in labeled clear bins stored on shelves and in an equipment closet. Laptops are stored in a cabinet. A large projection screen displays information presented on the teacher computer or on a table with a projection camera.
The tables and floor are cleaned after every class.
A courtyard is available for lunch and activities that require outdoor space.
As the year progresses, the classroom will closely resemble an art or architecture classroom as the class prepares work that will be documented in portfolios.
Our classroom will extend beyond the walls of the room.
Students will utilize work-spaces and resources around campus and throughout the community. Students will create work that will be shared in other classes, around campus and in the community.
