About Me

Larry Heard

I'm currently working for New Mexico Tech University as a STEM Outreach Specialist at the Air Force Research Lab. I teach Robotics, Physical Computing, Rocketry and other STEM related topics to middle and high school students. I've also worked as a Data Analyst, Training Specialist, College Teacher and Computer Programmer. I enjoy art, architecture, traveling, cycling, hiking and salsa dancing.

Teaching Philosophy

I believe that all children should be provided with a safe, inviting and stimulating learning environment that supports their growth as individuals and productive, responsible members of society.

Making

I believe the best way to learn computer technology and programming is through making things. In my classes, students will use a variety of tools to create digital documents each day that will go into class portfolios.

Sharing

I like the idea that learning is a social activity. So, I encourage students to help each other and work in teams.

Participating

Attendance is the most important ingredient to success. Most of the work in my classes can be completed in class if students regularly show up on time, seldom miss class and participate in class activities.

Moving on

I try to expose children to tools, skills and work habits that will help them in the future. Teachers are outstanding references for college, future jobs and other opportunities. Hard work, an open mind and a positive attitude will open many doors for your future. Students should take school seriously.
