In this section, I would like to share with you a lesson plan in which the 2 tools mentioned before, Copyleaks and FakeWhats, are used in a 40-minute lesson in secondary school.
Setting: 3rd year, private non-bilingual school
Level: Intermediate
Number of students: 20
Lesson length: 40 minutes.
Classroom: Computer lab
(Context: The following lesson plan has been developed considering the theme of the unit “sports” and it is the third class of the unit. In the first class, students have dealt with lexis on sports, and in the second one, with the grammatical structure of question tags. This lesson has been planned considering those previous lessons and contents).
Title of Unit: Sports Lesson sub-theme: Organizing a sport event Lesson: N 3
Lesson Objectives: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to…
Create a written conversation using question tags and lexis related to sports.
Make use of the digital tool “fakeWhats”.
Work in pairs to agree on the information of the task.
Analyze their classmates’ productions and identify which one they like the most.
Warm-up routine (5 min)
T will bring a meme/scale that contains nine images of Messi in different moods, and sts will be asked to choose which one represents them the most and orally share why.
Pre-task (10 min)
Sports: Students will play in teams a kahoot to revise lexis on sports.
Question tags: Students will be asked to read a conversation among some friends who are organizing a party, and they will be asked to spot all the question tags.
Task (20 min)
Once sts have read the text in the previous activity, they will be asked to work in pairs to write something similar, using that text as a model. The instruction will be:
Your best friend and you are organizing a sport event. You will have to choose one sport and create a conversation using FakeWhats. In your conversation, you should talk about the day, the place, the elements you will require, and you will need to include at least three question tags.
Closure/feedback (5 min)
Students will be asked to post their conversations on a padlet. Each pair will have to read other conversations shared by their classmates, and choose one sport event they would like to go. Then, they will orally share why they would like to go to that event.
After the lesson, the teacher will access the padlet and check all the productions using copyleak, to make sure that nobody has used Artificial Intelligence in their writings.
