Did you know teams go through four stages during their development? How can you help student groups who work together regularly become a cohesive and productive team?
In Canvas
Part 1
Benefits of in-class groupwork
Drawbacks of in-class groupwork
Benefits of out-of-class groupwork
Drawbacks of out-of-class groupwork
Part 2
As an LA, how can you…
Encourage the benefits?
Mitigate the drawbacks?
Use post-it notes with actions you can take and stick them next to the corresponding benefit/drawback.
A student sends you the following email: I was not in class this morning for a few reasons, mainly being that I am really struggling within my group. I take a bit longer to digest information and to be able to apply it, my teammates fly through the problems and when I ask questions for clarification I seem to be met with a bit of annoyance. I've let them know that I have not had to do this kind of math for 5 years and math is not something I am strong in. I do not want to get anyone in trouble but I was wondering when/ if we are going to be changing groups or if we could incorporate more independent work. What should you do?
What is one method that you’ll try in the upcoming week?
