The Advancement and Recognition Committee oversees and supports youth advancement and adult recognition within the district, as well as tracking and recognizing what happens elsewhere when we can.
The chairman is Tom Strong (tomstrong@gmail.com)
We have several subcommittees handling each area of advancement and recognition, and we invite every unit in the district to send a representative to learn about and to be involved with the process.
We meet in person each month, usually on the 3rd Sunday of the month at the Westinghouse Arts Academy Charter School in Wilmerding. The meeting begins at 6:30 PM, and at 7:30 we usually switch over to Eagle Project approvals and Boards of Review for Eagle Scouts. Check the calendar for the exact schedule, we move a week earlier or later in some months because of holiday conflicts.
If you would like to become involved please email the committee chairman above, or if you are at one of our meetings with a scout, just let us know.
We have a Google Group for the committee that is separate from the district group, it is found at groups.google.com/g/ldadvancement - If you go there and you're not a member yet, you will see a message saying you don't have access. If you are logged in to a Google account you'll see a link that says "try asking to join the group", please fill that out and let us know how you are involved In scouting, and we will add you. If you do not have a Google account, please email the chairman and we can send you an invitation.
We use that list to send out announcements and agendas for our monthly meetings, as well as information about changes to the advancement process as we learn about them. It is not a discussion group, and the posting frequency is typically two to three messages a month.
