Roshauna

My theme is about my hometown Hackney. I explored some of the darker truths about Hackney and how it has affected me.

In this process I wasn't sure of how I wanted my artwork to be or to be about I looked at different artist such as Yuumei Art an artist I saw on social media to gain ideas. I took a walk about in my area to take photographs. Doing research really helped me have a deeper understanding of how crime, lack of money affects me and the people living in my area.

After having more of an understanding, I decided to do a self-portrait of myself standing in the middle of the road with hands on my face that represent the limits like crime, drugs, lack of money. Also, the limits family put on you like wanting to put their dream on you, stopping you from doing the things you love.

This project helped me to come out of my comfort zone by exploring different ways of painting and expressing my work.
