About the owner - Wirtz-Takahashi

My name is Wirtz-Takahashi, a working mother in my 30s living in Kyoto, with my husband and our 3-year-old child. I previously worked as an English teacher at a public high school and now work in education. After taking two years of parental leave, I returned to full-time work and continue to run this circle alongside my career. I have read over 400 parenting books, with a strong preference for neuroscience-based and evidence-based research. My goal is to thoughtfully integrate various parenting methods and research findings to determine what best suits my own child. In early childhood, I aim for what I call a “primitive” style of parenting—nurturing the human fundamentals: eating, sleeping, playing, moving, and speaking —while fully developing instincts and the five senses. In our family, I built a strong foundation in Japanese (mother tongue). My husband speaks to our child in his native language, Spanish. My husband and I speak English to each other. Until age one, we entrusted English exposure mainly to a native English-speaking playmate. After that, I gradually increased English picture-book reading while reducing outsourced native input. After age three, English exposure shifted primarily to books. Language exposure volume: Japanese > Spanish > English. Our child is bilingual in Japanese and Spanish. We hope my kids will learn English as a foreign language, with strong pronunciation and structural understanding. Exposure to native English speakers began at 3 months old. During my two years of parental leave and two years after returning to work, I studied and practiced developmentally appropriate and efficient parenting methods. Based on that experience, I have hosted parenting lectures and organized parent–child English learning sessions in a “Terakoya” (community learning) style, continuing these activities while working full-time.
