We have presented our research in today's lecture and after some constructive feedback I have new idea's to explore for my creature. I now need to move on to creating various designs for my Wendigo before I settle on a design. I still want to give mine a more serpentine/draconic look as well as making my it look regal, ancient and battle-worn.
The key feature of my character I am going to implement s the head injury that has resulted in my Wendigo only having one antler.
I am also going to look into native American tribes to see how that culture can be implemented into my own designs. Things like tribal tattoos and clothing.
I drew up some designs considering these things and as a result I found that I did not really like the native American theme, neither did I want to make the design to realistic or demonic looking. As such I have decided to go with a more plant like/ forest spirit look.
The key elements of the design I have decided I am going to keep are the general plant based look, especially the wood skin and the vines breaking through the surface (around the broken eye and spine especially) as I found it to be rather interesting to see. I have also decided that as oppose to traditional renditions of the Wendigo, I have gone with a more regal though still damaged look. One detail I found worked rather well was that instead of feat, I had my creatures legs sharpen to points, giving my creature what I think to be a sense of otherworldliness and grace.
In these particular drawings I styled the creature so that its body somewhat resembled formal clothing.
After doing some initial designs and settling on the look and style I wanted for my creature, I now need to expand on it.
I need to draw different posses, different colours and also I need to play with the design in some places (such as the skin, antler and general level of detail) as I feel that although it's what I want to do, how hard it will be to model is another matter entirely. I might also experiment with weaponry, see if there is anything I can equip my creature with that would create a cool pose.
I need to look up some tutorials on how to model wood in Zbrush as that will be rather more relevant to the design given the direction i'm going with my design
