Books & Blocks

Books and Blocks Club

Hello fellow quilting readers. As mentioned at our February meeting we are trying out a new group that encompasses both our love of reading and of quilting. The challenge is to complete a quilt block of any size that represents something about a book that we have just read. There are various groups that you can find on facebook (just google Books and Blocks). The original idea may have been one book/one block a month but in our club, it can be whatever works for you. You may even decide that all you can manage is one book a year so instead make it a chapter block!

Some of the blocks are traditional blocks but using the colors of the front cover of their book. Others may be applique or pieced designs that portray the story content (don’t give away the ending). Some will do both. You are the driver of this bus, oops book adventure so you get to decide.

I suggest that we start in March but members may join at any time. We can use a 1-year time frame to collect our first year of blocks.

I also suggest that we send into the guild email a picture of our book cover and we will see if we can have a section built on our website for our group photos. When we have finished our block for the book, we can add that picture as well to be seen side by side.

If there is interest, we can also arrange a day at our Corner to work on our block(s) but as I cannot promise quiet it would not be suitable for reading to take place as well.

We had the following 7 members (Liz MacGougan, Mary Crowley, Maxine Newman, Libby Maskos, Bev Day, Dorothy Harvey, and Valerie Hopper) join at the February meeting but all are welcome. Just send your name  to the guild email along with picture/title of your first book.

I am considering doing one of a collection of books that each of my children have read and enjoyed. Hopefully I still have some of them and can start rereading!
