What to do with leftover fabric?

Ideas from SCA Garb How-To

• hats like phrygian or burka caps

• Draw string pouches and bags of various sized donated for largess.

• Baby garb

• Early Irish (patchwork image)

• For unusable pieces, see if you know any paper makers. They often use linen scraps.

• Trim

• Small bags to hold small crafts on the go (like my cross-stitching).

• Bow ties

• Hair bows

• Crazy quilts.

• Accent colors for a bigger project.

• Sew them into yardage and make more garb or blankets out of them.

• Applique

• So many projects and repairs just need a little bit! I save everything of quality.

• Keep and make a braided rug

• Steal away scraps to make the ugliest gypsy skirt in existence.

• Contrasting cuffs

• Mud hems

• for colorful strips of "trim" on sleeves of coats and tunics

• cheap edging (sew a bunch of pieces into one long bit, about three inches wide, then fold in half and iron... fold each half in half, makes "binding tape" or "bias tape" but not necessarily on the bias)

• depending on when your Period is, there are numerous instances of clothing made from multiple bits of fabric , either in different contrasting colors, or simply made from the scraps from other bits. There is one viking shirt that is made from dozens of different bits of fabric

• Doll garb

• If for some reason you find yourself not wanting to do any of these, your local home ec class or girl scout troop may be interested

• have a swap night at your local shire. That small piece may be exactly what someone else needs.

• There is a youth point starting in the West Kingdom. They have asked for such items so that the not-so-smalls can learn new crafts/skills. Maybe you can see if there is something like that in your area
