Pattern, with help from Lady Ela and Lady Adelaide
Surged Fabric
Pinned to canvas layer.
Sebastian is helping.
Car sewing on family vacation.
These seams will NEVER come apart. I backstitched one side twice, and the other side once then machine sewed both because I didn't have it straight enough.
Thread pulling for the guards.
Seam finishing
Sebastian, still being helpful.
Guards
Machine sewn together.
Had to remove these and insert boning, and reattach.
The skirt
Trial
I let this hang for a few weeks. I feel like I should have washed it then hung it so it stretched a little more.
For the pleats I pinned the ends, then half way of each portion, then continued halving sections until they were spaced generally how I wanted then I hand-sewed where the pin was to tack them down.
Then I whip stitched the rest of the skirt to the bodice in what I THOUGHT was the opposite direction. Not a huge deal, but will definitely double check the front next time. These pleats all go in the same direction, rather than all out from the front to the center back as I originally wanted.
For the Hemd I honeycomb smocked the collar and the cuffs. Turns out, as the newly minted Metressa Miri Nader (Vadoma) was right when she saw me emerge from my tent. The honeycomb stretched pretty far by the end of the day. I will be modifying these sleeves. I will also be smocking more sections of them and making a fancier hat and headwear.
This outfit's Pennsic debut only looked so good because Metressa Miri Nader wrapped my head scarf for me.
