Theme: “The Golden Thread”: Celebrating Kuwait’s Living Heritage
Call for Entry Deadline: January 31, 2026
The Kuwait Textile Arts Association (KTAA), in partnership with Patchwork Studio and in collaboration with distinguished visual artist Qhaneema Qudamani, invites textile artists to participate in the second annual Kuwait Heritage Challenge—an opportunity to create innovative, expertly crafted quilts inspired by Kuwait’s living heritage and the enduring symbolism of gold.
Call Overview
The Annual Kuwait Heritage Challenge invites participants to create original quilts that celebrate Kuwait’s rich culture through a contemporary lens. For the 2025 challenge, artists are asked to design quilts that explore how gold has shaped Kuwaiti identity—appearing in jewelry, clothing, household objects, and as a timeless emblem of generosity, celebration, and tradition. Through these works, participants will highlight the enduring symbolism of gold in Kuwait’s living heritage.
Rules & Specifications
• Theme Commitment: Quilts must creatively express the annual theme of golden heritage.
• Fabrics Requirement:
- A curated selection of 8 fat quarters (or more) are available for purchase from Patchwork Studio.
- No other fabrics may be used on the face of the quilt or the binding.
- The backing fabric can be of the participant's choice.
• Size: Must not exceed 20 × 20 inches.
• Techniques: Any quilting technique may be used, such as piecing, appliqué, embroidery, and fabric painting.
• Embellishments: Beads, sequins, and metallic gold threads are permissible.
• Quilt Construction: Must consist of three layers (top – batting – backing) and include a sleeve for hanging.
• Original Work: Entries must be original creations. Collaborative works are permitted if disclosed.
• Judging Criteria:
- Creativity and interpretation of the theme
- Use of color and fabric
- Technical skill and craftsmanship
Submission Guidelines
• Deadline: January, 31st 2026.
• Each entry must be accompanied by a short artist statement describing its inspiration and connection to the theme.
• Entry Fee: Free to KTAA members, 5KD Non KTAA members
