Kalpathy Thyagaraja Aradhana Centenary Celebrations
a tribute to Rama Bhagavatar

Namaskarams!

Om Sadgurubhyo Namah!

Amongst the Carnatic music greats of yesteryears is Palghat Sri Ramabhagavatar. He lived from 1888 to 1957.

To describe his life, I quote from the Bhagavad Gita:

manahprasaadah saumyatwam maunamaaatmavinigrahah

bhaavasamshuddhirityetat tapo maanasamuchyate - 17.16

Meaning - Serenity of mind, good heartedness, silence, self-control, purity of nature - this is called the mental austerity.

Palghat Rama Bhagavatar was a true karma yogi and a "thapasvi" whose meditation was music and devotion to his Kuladeivam and the Grama deivams of Kalpathy Lakshminarayana Swamy and Kasi Viswanatha Swamy.

For most of his life, he lived in Kalpathy, Palakkad, Kerala. Every year he traveled to Thiruviyaru to take part in the Thyararaja Aradhana. However in 1924 he missed the connecting train to Trichy and after a troubled night,  he and a few co-musicians of Kalpathy started observing the Thyagaraja Aradhana at the Rama Dhyana Matom in the village. Since 1924 the Aradhana has been celebrated every year.  We are looking at 100 years of nonstop Aradhana celebrations in the Kalpathy Agraharam which is a significant milestone in itself.

In 2024 January Palghat Ramabhagavatar's family called the Guruprasad family after the name of his home in the Agraharam, has plans to celebrate the Centenary year of the Kalpathy Thyagaraja Aradhana together with Sri Thyaga Bramha Aradhana committee in Kalpathy.

In the runup to the 2024 Aradhana, we have planned music competitions and other events that will bring the Carnatic music community together and celebrate the event as well as the life of Palakkad Sri Rama Bhagavatar.

Through this communication, we request you all "rasikas" to be present during the Centenary Aradhana celebrations and pay a fitting tribute to Palghat Sri Rama Bhagavatar

The details are listed on the EVENTS  page and please check the Online music competition details. Please forward this page to all Carnatic rasikas and friends.

Please go to https://www.ramabhagavatar.com/ and read about his life, listen to the songs that were recovered from 78RPM gramophone plates and view tributes from far and wide about the great soul he was.

Radhe Krishna !
