This semester, we took a trip to North Carolina State University to learn more about their graduate chemistry program. During our visit, we explored their laboratories and had the opportunity to see some of the advanced equipment and research spaces used by graduate students.

One of the most interesting pieces of equipment we saw was a glove box. The glove box allows researchers to handle sensitive materials in a controlled environment while keeping themselves protected. By placing their hands into the attached gloves, scientists can safely work with substances that may react with air or moisture. Seeing this equipment in person helped me better understand how professional laboratories operate and how important safety and precision are in advanced research.

We also had the chance to learn about the graduate students’ research projects and hear about the path they took to get into the program. They shared information about their experiments, academic journeys, and what it takes to succeed in graduate school. I found this experience very insightful and motivating because it gave me a clearer picture of what my future in science could look like.

Overall, the visit was both educational and inspiring. I learned a lot about graduate-level research, laboratory technology, and the opportunities available in the field of chemistry.
