In our workshops, we focused on important aspects of laboratory safety. We created videos demonstrating key precautions in the lab, such as identifying the location of the fire extinguisher and proper disposal sites for materials—like designated containers for broken glass and chemical waste.
During our second workshop, we explored chemical safety in greater depth by reviewing Safety Data Sheets (SDS). We learned how to identify a chemical’s properties, understand the necessary precautions, and respond appropriately in case of skin contact. We also discussed what information must be included on a shipping label if a chemical were ever transported.
Overall, these workshops have been very insightful and have taught us a great deal about maintaining safety and professionalism in the laboratory environment.
