This semester, I am taking PHIL 100 (Critical Thinking). This course is helping me succeed because it teaches me how to look at topics from different perspectives and analyze evidence more effectively. I am learning how to question assumptions, evaluate arguments, and think more deeply about complex issues. These skills are especially important for my major in biochemistry and forensic science, where critical thinking is essential for analyzing data, interpreting results, and solving scientific problems.
I am also enrolled in ENGL 120 (English Composition II). In this class, I am developing stronger research and writing skills. We have learned how to write research-based essays and properly use APA format for academic papers. This course is valuable for my major because scientific fields require extensive writing, including lab reports, research papers, and documentation of findings. Being able to clearly communicate scientific information is just as important as conducting the research itself.
In CHEM 100 and Chemistry Lab, we are currently learning about moles and how to identify elements by their mass. This class strengthens my understanding of fundamental chemical concepts that are directly related to my major. Since I am studying biochemistry and forensic science, having a solid foundation in chemistry is essential. The lab component also helps me develop hands-on skills and reinforces the concepts we learn in lectures.
Lastly, I am taking Pre-Calculus II, which helps me strengthen my mathematical skills. Math plays an important role in science, especially in areas like chemistry and biochemistry, where calculations and data analysis are required. This course helps me build the quantitative reasoning skills necessary for success in my field.
Overall, each of my current courses contributes to my academic growth and prepares me for a successful career in biochemistry and forensic science by strengthening my critical thinking, writing, scientific knowledge, and mathematical skills.Â
