Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
Educators are to take on the role as an instructor that guides student learning. Through this process they are to use their proficiency in content, teaching pedagogies, and technology to encourage student growth. This process would also include student reflections in order to promote positive growth and enhance their individual creativity.
I felt that the Peardeck lesson redesign project, created for LSE 500: Intro to Learning Sciences/Technology, was a great example of how technology can be used to facilitate experiences that advance student learning. In previous years, the end of unit 8 review on Roots was often an in class partner or group review. The students would use basic pencil and paper to complete notes and reviews. With the lesson redesign, he use of Peardeck allowed for the students to type in notes while exploring the material. After the lesson was presented and worked on, the students are able to apply their takeaways to their copy of the notes that was saved into their google drive. This allowed for the students to learn in class, but also work on built in questions to work on the assignments outside of the classroom in a virtual setting. With the feature of takeaways, the students demonstrated how they can reflect upon the lessons, and tailor the notes to their needs. Below, you can find the detailed lesson plans for the unit, as well as a lesson redesign recap narrated video.
