Objectives:
1. Acquisition and evaluation of commercially important processing/table potato germplasm for varietal development.
2. Virus elimination and micro-propagation protocols of selected potato germplasm/varieties
3. Virus free nucleus seed production through aeroponic cultivation along with simultaneous virus indexing for quality
seed multiplication under screen houses
Activities:
- Production of potato plantlet by tissue culture
- Production of virus free nucleus potato tubers
thru aeroponic cultivation
- Production of virus free seed potato tubers in
screen houses
Expected Outputs:
1. Availability of virus free healthy potato seeds to the farmers.
2. Ensure growth rates and healthy, uniform and vigorous potato tubers.
3. Reducing the number of cycles in potato seed multiplication thus reducing the threats to health and quality of potato tubers.
4. Contribution to self-sufficiency of seed potato and reduction of potato import
5. Reduction in the price of locally available seed.
