A. Your Training Companion
Welcome, trainer!
Your task of training data collectors is essential for minimizing errors and in turn, gathering good-quality data. In short, you are heading a capacity-building activity to help data collectors confidently and competently gather data on the field. This manual will be your companion and key reference to help achieve this goal.
B. Using the Training Manual
The Training Manual for Trainers was developed to help you conduct workshops based on the contents of the Field Guide for Data Collectors. As trainers, you can refer to this Manual to help design your training workshop and prepare for your sessions. It also provides you with the pedagogy for achieving participants’ learning objectives.
It is recommended that you read this Manual from start to finish. By the end, you should be able to:
Design a training workshop for data collectors
Develop the knowledge, attitudes, and competencies to facilitate and conduct the workshop
Evaluate the impact of the workshop based on the participants’ learning results
C. Contents of the Training Manual
This Manual contains a set of practical guidelines and tools to help you effectively design, conduct, and evaluate a training workshop for data collectors. Accordingly, the Manual is organized into 3 distinct phases to ensure that you have comprehensive coverage of the training process:
Phase 1: Before the Training which contains the training curriculum, checklists for the trainer, and other practical tools for designing the workshop
Phase 2: During the Training which contains instructional designs for each training session
Phase 3: After the Training which contains a set of evaluation tools
D. Specific Learning Approach
This Manual uses a specific learning approach which can be summarized as follows:
ADULT LEARNER-CENTERED AND INTERACTIVE
The learning activities that you will facilitate are grounded on the understanding that the data collectors, as adult learners, bring a wealth of experiences and intrinsic motivation to the learning environment. This requires a tailored and interactive approach, facilitating a seamless transfer of initiative and knowledge development from the trainer to the learner.
CONTEXTUALIZED AND PRACTICAL
The learning activities combine in-depth lectures with practical applications through group activities and hands-on exercises that simulate experiences on the field. This approach ensures that learners not only gain theoretical and Field Guide-specific knowledge but also develop the readiness and practical skills to conduct data collection on the field.
