The Koike Lab welcomes inquiries from postdoctoral researchers interested in joining our research activities and developing projects related to our research areas.

Research topics will be discussed based on the applicant’s previous experience, scientific interests, and potential connections with ongoing projects in the laboratory. We welcome researchers with backgrounds in stem cell and organoid biology, developmental biology, aging research, molecular and cellular biology, animal models, imaging, single-cell analysis, spatial transcriptomics, or related fields.

The availability of salaried postdoctoral positions depends on current research funding. We particularly welcome applicants who have obtained, or are planning to apply for, external fellowships or research funding.

Applicants considering international fellowship programs are encouraged to contact us well in advance of the application deadline so that potential research projects can be discussed together.

The JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research in Japan provide opportunities for overseas researchers to conduct collaborative research at universities and research institutions in Japan. Master’s and Ph.D. Programs

We welcome inquiries from prospective international students who are interested in pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in the Koike Lab.

Students can join the laboratory by enrolling in the Master’s or Doctoral Program in the Department of Biological Sciences, Graduate School of Biological Sciences, Tokyo University of Science.

Research topics will be discussed based on the applicant’s academic background, previous research experience, scientific interests, and future goals. Students may participate in ongoing projects in the laboratory or develop new research questions that connect their own interests with the research directions of the Koike Lab.

Prospective students are encouraged to contact us before submitting an application to discuss their research interests, potential projects, and suitability for the laboratory. Tokyo University of Science also instructs graduate-school applicants to contact their prospective research supervisor before applying.

What is a Research Student (Kenkyusei)?

A Research Student, or Kenkyusei, is a non-degree student who conducts research under the supervision of a faculty member for a defined period. Research Students do not receive a Master’s or Ph.D. degree through this status alone.

The Research Student system can be useful for those who wish to gain research experience, become familiar with a new research field or research environment, or prepare for future graduate study in Japan.

For applicants coming from overseas, the Research Student period can provide an opportunity to become familiar with the research and academic environment in Japan while preparing for future graduate study. Applicants may also continue studying Japanese as needed during this period. However, the primary purpose of the Research Student program is academic research, not language study.

We will discuss the applicant’s academic background, previous research experience, reason for applying, future plans, and research interests before deciding whether the laboratory can accept the applicant.
