General Locations
A range of sacred mountains, the “home” to the dragons and their ancient ancestral birthing place. Wild dragons are common, some even native to this mountainous area, where magic seems more powerful and real. Humans are not known to visit here, as the local dragons will not react kindly to unwelcome visitors. Off the coast of the great sea of which Watatsumi was known.
Location Notes:
Remote mountains with heavy tree coverage and fog. Hidden pools and waterfalls that serve as dwellings to wild Kodai are common. Lush, green vegetation, little to no human presence. Old, abandoned temple ruins may be found in these ranges if one searches hard enough.
A bustling, tech advanced city. If you want something, this is the place to buy it! The central hub for all a dragon could wish to find, but avoided by those who have chosen to stick to their wild roots.
Location Notes:
A busy urban environment. City lights at all times of the day, brightly colored signs, and every sort of shop one could imagine. Mount Fuji may be visible in the distance. Creative freedom is fully to the artist, so long as evidence of the city is included.
Within the deepest heart of Tokyo resides a small square filled with all shapes, colors, and sizes of lanterns. Rumor has it that a light market got... A bit out of hand... But why take it all down when its beauty is so dazzling to all who visit? These days, a few different trinket stalls surround the square, but small gardens have been set up within the cobblestone of this tiny gem within the big city - making it a lovely place to sit and reset after a busy day.
Location Notes:
A small market square hidden within the heart of Tokyo. Lanterns of various colors, shapes, and designs are strewn up over market stalls and across the square on strings. Within the cobblestone square are small flower gardens tended to by the local shop owners. While the space is somewhat cramped for a dragon, one can still find a good time.
Mount Fuji, also known as Fuji-san, is Japan's tallest peak and an active volcano. It is a world-famous symbol of the country, seen in the horizon from many vantage points.
Location Notes:
An active volcano that towers above all other mountains. The mountainside is largely barren and void of much plant life.
A hidden away waterfall that is inaccessible to humans due to its location deep within the protected Kodai territory. Tsuyukusa Vale is known for its luscious plant life, its moss and ferns told to be some of the greenest in all of the world. Depending on when one makes the trip out to the falls, flowers bloom in a wide range of colors in the spring. The waterfall is tiered down several 'levels', small pools on each cliff where one can take a rest.
Location Notes:
A multi-tiered waterfall located deep within the mountain forests. The plant life is rich and green, almost entirely covering the rocks in some sections. There is no sign of human life or settlement here.
An agricultural village located closest to the sacred forests of Ryūjin Hausu. Said to be one of the oldest villages of the island, the native people to this area tend to be highly religious, some even treating the modern Kodai Ryu as being gods in their own right. Laws prohibit any and all human activity within the nearby forests and mountains, but the people of this village frequently leave offerings for the wild Kodai at the edges of town or at designated shrines, hoping for good luck to be granted to them in return.
Location Notes:
An agricultural civilization within the foothills of the mountains. Most of the space is covered in planted fields tended by farmers who live in the small village nearby. There are some small produce markets, but the village is far more known for its small temples.
Want to find some cherry blossoms to admire (or maybe snack on)? This wooded grove is your place. Entirely composed of cherry blossom trees, the nature park has been planted around a beautiful lake that mirrors all the colors of spring.
Location Notes:
A peaceful wooded park where both humans and Kodai may be seen. Cherry blossom trees are the focal point of this location. Petals may be drifting through the air, some landing on old statues or on the worn paths that have long been left unattended. Wild Kodai seem to enjoy this area, but keep to the outskirts in order to avoid the humans.
Welcome to Eternal Winter! Or so it seems. Nestled high up in the northernmost mountains of the island, Yuki point is a quaint, tiny village that spends most of the year under a blanket of snow. Residents and their Kodai rely on hunting game and expert gathering skills to remain self sufficient being so far away from the next nearest agricultural village. Though while the town is frigid, the people are warm and joyous, elders telling tales of the lost god of ice, Kuraokami. Some even claim that the ruins of his temple are up in the swirling storms at the highest peaks.
Location Notes:
A small village nestled in the northern mountains. Snow is always present, whether mid-storm or mid spring melt. Most homes are built from the logs of the pine forests surrounding the village. Small markets sell special hot chocolate rumored to be the best in all of Japan!
Ancient scrolls tell of a place referred to as Minegami, where mortal Kodai could stand so close to the sky itself that they could shake hands with the gods. Today, too many scrolls have been lost to be able to tell exactly where the old Minegami is, but spiritual Kodai now use the term to refer to the peaks of the mountains that reach above the tree line and the clouds. Prayer and reflection are often conducted in these places, and it is considered common courtesy to conduct onself with dignity whilst in these sacred spaces.
Location Notes:
Mountain peak above the tree line. Reaches above the clouds to reveal a wide open sky. Small shrines and religious offerings may be scattered about peaks of this fantastic height.
Sacred Locations
The following lore locations are sacred to the Kodai Ryu species, often the sites of temples dedicated to the gods of old. Legend tells of not just one, but numerous temples all throughout Japan... Where are they?
Once the grandest palace in all the world, the home of great sea god Watatsumi has since fallen into ruins. The palace itself has been surrounded in raging currents that cannot be tamed, leaving only the outskirts of underwater rubble left to explore. While most items have been washed away with time, there may still be a treasure or two to be found in this desolate environment.
Location Notes:
Underwater sea environment, off the coast of the mountains. Rubble covered in algae and aquatic plantlife is scattered about the seafloor. The palace itself is inaccessible and wrapped in violent currents...
Continue onward, young dragon... This is only the beginning. There are more special locations yet to come.
