The Kodai Ryu are a species of Japanese eastern dragon that descend straight from the Gods of old, spanning several hundreds of generations and centuries of time. Whilst they still have the blood of Gods within them, they lost their magic long ago since the disappearance of their Deities. It is not known if the elemental magic returning will alter the species, though studies are being conducted regularly to monitor the species, and the vast differences between individuals.
Despite being a very old species, not too much is known about them, mostly due to the fact they have remained mostly wild and feral until recent years. Studies are constantly being held to learn more about these dragons and learn how to better their living quality. They are known to be incredibly intelligent, versatile and adaptable to varying environments.

Behavior
Tame Kodai have been regularly noted for their calm demeanor and intelligence, making them easy to train and good for families. They are often tasked with a variety of jobs including farm work, city travel, hunting, and tracking. They are known to be exceptional with young children, and have often been tasked with babysitting their owners' offspring.
Despite this, each Kodai has a unique personality, and one is not always quite like the other. They all have an affinity for water, and often require several swim sessions a week to keep them happy and healthy.
Wild Kodai, whilst they have the ability to showcase the same calm and gentle attributes that the tame Kodai do, are far more known for being aloof and distant. They prefer to stay closer to their birth place, the Ryūjin Hausu, a range of sacred mountains that is rarely explored by humans. It's forbidden to go there as a protection law, though some humans have been known to venture there under the pretense of research, or rumored to be carried off by a vengeful Kodai. Many are rarely seen again.
