Developmentally Appropriate Practice

Not only do we want to implement evidence-based practices, but the practices we use must also be developmentally appropriate. This means that we are taking into account a child's current developmental abilities whether in social/emotional, language, mobility, cognition, or self-help skills. A variety of assessments can be used to determine this, but we can also look at the developmental milestones of a child to see what areas they may be behind in. Their developmental age is just as important as knowing their chonological age to determine where we begin intervention services and how we can best meet the goals of the family.

Pre and Post Data Collection

Functional Behavior Analysis Intervention

This paper is a Functional Behavior Analysis (FBA) that I created for someone that I know. In this paper, I go step by step in the process of an FBA: data collection, creating an behavior intervention plan (BIP) and assessment of the intervention, including a brief review and possible changes if this intervention were maintained.

The accompanying artifact is the data collection for both pre and post intervention implementation.

Clean Up Intervention

Token Economy Intervention for Clean Up Time

This intervention showed the utilization of a token economy reward system and how it can be used to help facilitate clean up time when working with children. The first artifact is a double-sided handout to show how the intervention will be used as well as an example of a token economy board.

The second is a more detailed paper of the intervention along with a brief review of the effectiveness of token economy systems. The paper includes how data will be collected, and potential pitfalls when using this method of intervention.

Parent-Toddler Group Lesson Plan

This is a lesson plan that I created alongside two of my peers. In it, we plan a group activity and wrote how it will go as well as what key words we wished to introduce to the kids in the activity. We lay out goals for each of the clients that were in our parent-toddler group as well as how we will reinforce those approximations and/or successes. Lastly, there is a handout page which we give to the parents who are also in the therapy session with us. This handout was a traditional kids song ('Twinkle Twinkle Little Star') modified to the group activity with bolded key words.
