About Me
About Me
My name is Katie Moore. I am a graduate of  Case Western Reserve University with a masters degree in psychology with a specialization in early intervention. I am currently a Developmental Specialist at the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
I completed my undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Theater with a concentration in Educational Studies from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. While taking my undergraduate courses, I had the opportunity to observe at a public school in Minneapolis in a second-grade classroom. In this school, many of the kids were not meeting the state testing goals on standardized tests. More importantly, however, I learned about two factors, among many others, that were potentially greatly impacting their ability to perform in school and on tests - a majority of children were on free and reduced meals in school, and many kids, as well as their parents, spoke primarily Spanish or Somali and thus, the child could be learning English as well as being a translator for their parents as well. From this experience, as well as other experiences working in the classroom, and my undergraduate coursework, I became interested in understanding how outside factors and one's life experiences influence child development for the goal of helping kids achieve academic success.
Throughout my graduate coursework, practica, as well as my time professionally in the field, my interest has expanded beyond the classroom and provided me with experiences in early intervention in a variety of different settings. As a practitioner, I work with a variety of different families from different socio-economic backgrounds and continue to grow in my abilities to be a culturally-competent practitioner. My goal is in meeting families and children where they are at and to empower them so they can help their children achieve their developmental goals, as well as advocate for families by providing resources so that they may receive the supports that are needed.
