This course allowed me to work with a diverse group of students in many different fields from medicine to social work. In this course, we, as a group of six, worked together to create a project which we presented to our project champion at the end of the school year. The goal of this course was to be able to provide an learning experience in which students from multiple professions work as a team on a community-based project focused on health and well-being.
During my time in this course, I worked with five other students to prepare an infant health curriculum for new and expectant mothers.

This course provides structured training activities to help the student develop skills in assessment and intervention. This training experience will provide practice in skills that students need when working in early intervention settings. This course surveys the nature and characteristics of language disorders in children birth to 5 years. Theoretical and clinical issues related to effective intervention with children and their families will be reviewed. Assessment and treatment of disorders of syntax, semantics and pragmatics are taught. Strategies for intervention with children from special populations and multicultural populations are covered.

COSI 556
This course focused on research-based theories of language and learning disorders in the school-age and adolescent student. Language, learning, and cognitive development of the older child during the school age and adolescent years will be reviewed. Topics include the development of foundational language, higher level language, social communication, reading, writing, and attention. Disorder types discussed include language disorder, social communication disorder, dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, and ASD. The relationship of spoken language (listening and speaking) to learning (reading and writing) will be discussed. Students will have hands-on experience in the evaluation process by administering tests, scoring tests, interpreting test results, and writing a diagnostic report. Differential diagnosis will identify primary and comorbid conditions in the areas of language, social communication, metalinguistics, reading, writing, memory, retrieval, and attention. The class format includes lectures, discussions of case studies, and experiential learning.

This course was the second part of the other Research Design and Quantitative Analysis course. Through readings and lectures, it also went in depth on common methodologies and associated statistical techniques employed in psychological research as well as gave students the opportunity to practice writing up results sections using the output from homework problems utilizing statistical software.

This course focused on assessment of cognitive abilities, including guidelines for assessment, use of different psychological tests, and the interpretation of information. This course was taken in two parts: one to examine assessment of adults, and one section dedicated to the study of kids.

Through guest speakers, we were introduced to different professionals who provided services to young children and the importance of working in an interprofessional group dynamic.
Through placements, we were able to take what we learned in coursework and apply it to various placements throughout our time in the program. During my time in the program I had placements at 1) Epicenter ABA, 2) Fit Learning, 3) Tremont Montessori, 4) Parent-Toddler Group at Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center and 5) Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

Through group discussion, assigned readings, and reflection papers, this course went further in depth on evidence-based practices that can be used when working with young children (birth to 6) and included discussion of recent research and evidence based practices. It concluded with a collaborative project addressing children with dyslexia and how both parents and professionals can best help these kids.
