In general, the way to improve emotional regulation in children and adults, is to teach them to become more aware of their bodies, their thoughts, and their feelings. Once people are able to observe and reflect on their thoughts, feelings, reactions, and behaviors with more distance, they can be taught to use a variety of strategies to help bring their mind and body back to a calm, regulated state of equinimity-which is the state that is needed for effective learning to take place.
