I am a bilingual speech-language pathologist specializing in language, literacy, and executive function. I have a B.A. in Spanish, an M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language, and an M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology. I have experience in the public school system, early intervention, and private practice.
My husband's name is Edgar and he is a professional salsa dance instructor and choreographer. He also owns the Rumba Room on South Main. We have two children, Ben (17) and Julia (13). Ben loves baseball and Julia loves animals and music (especially singing and guitar).
My goal is to create a learning environment in which everyone feels welcome and supported and in which everyone feels comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and trying things that may be new or difficult.
For beginning students, maximal support and modeling will be provided. As our time together goes on, I will slowly release responsibility to you as I see that you are ready.
Verbal feedback will be provided in the moment, at the conclusion of diagnostic/therapy sessions, and at the end of the semester.
Hours should be entered into Typhon weekly (Policy E-109). Failure to complete Typhon hours will be reflected in clinic grade
SOAP notes in IMS should be completed daily. A SOAP note must be entered for each client encounter (including evaluations). Failure to complete SOAP notes in a timely manner will be reflected in clinic grade. SOAP should be forwarded to supervisor within 24 hours of the date of service.
Wear professional clothing (no low-cut shirts, flip flops, jeans, shorts, etc.). For our diagnostic clients who are very young, we spend a fair amount of time sitting and crawling on the floor. Keep this in mind when you select your clothing. (Policy C-210)
Arrive on time for all sessions (15 minutes before tx session, 30 minutes before dx session) and inform supervisor if you will be late. Notify supervisor if you are ill or unable to attend clinic as far in advance as possible and try hard to find a substitute (Policy E-SLP-102)
Return all therapy/diagnostic materials to proper place in the clinic. Sanitize items/materials after use. (Policy E-SLP-102)
