Instructional Design for Ed Tech
In EDTC 5335 we focused on solving instructional problems with the use of instructional design principles. We explored different models of design where we learned to conduct a learner analysis, define goals, complete a task analysis that broke the project down into very small pieces, and create assessments. All of these pieces helped for me to solve problems in an organized way.
From this experience I created an online course that I called, "Reimagine Mathematics". This was created using the content that we use at my company The Number Lab. We work with teachers from all over to train them in our math curriculum. We spend our summers working with these teachers and teaching them a lot of the content but often times have teachers asking for more. I decided to use this as my problem to explore. I wanted to create an online experience where teachers could dig into the content and keep themselves up informed.
I also included one of the videos that I created on my site. This was my favorite part of the course as I had to think about how to best communicate this content to teachers. I was challenged with deciding how to create and deliver the content as well as how to best connect with teachers. I had many iterations of these videos and was excited by how they turned out.
My biggest take away from this course was understanding and using the iCare model to design a learning experience.
