Winter Semester 2025/26 (second half)

Microeconomics deals with analyzing the economic behavior of households and firms and explaining how markets (and other institutions) in which households and firms interact function. The lecture introduces the fundamental concepts of the field, provides an overview of more advanced topics that are explored in other courses, and aims to spark your interest in economic questions.

In Micro 1 we will discuss consumption and production behavior of consumers and firms to derive demand and supply curves. We will also discuss the properties of equilibria on competitive markets.

In Micro 2 we will deal with market failure due to external effects, public goods, and imperfect competition. We will discuss monopolistic markets and the core concepts of game theory in order to analyze firm behavior on oligopolistic markets.
