Artifact Description: This is a online professional development that I made through PowerSchool learning system. This was a module that was for teachers and other educators to learn how to use Flipgrid to integrate them into their classes. The professional development went over what is Flipgrid, how to create a grid for students, strategies for student interactions, and how to assess students when using Flipgrid. The principles of the ISTE coach standards were used to help construct this professional development. I used ISTE standard 4a. collaborate with educators to develop authentic, active learning experiences that foster student agency, deepen content mastery and allow students to demonstrate their competency to construct the the professional development. The ideas is to show teachers how I let students learn how to use the application so they are experiencing the same type of learning the students would. Also included, ISTE standard 4b. help educators use digital tools to create effective assessments that provide timely feedback and support personalized learning, by teaching them how to give valuable feedback to students, with a lesson and interaction on Flipgrid.
Implementation: This professional development was posted on PowerSchool Learning for teachers to go and complete on their own time. The Links in the professional development also led them to the Flipgrid website so that teachers could get hands on experience for how to use Flipgrid and strategies for using and assess students on it. This was aligned with ISTE standards 4a. collaborate with educators to develop authentic, active learning experiences that foster student agency, deepen content mastery and allow students to demonstrate their competency and 4b. help educators use digital tools to create effective assessments that provide timely feedback and support personalized learning. Having teachers work on their own time shows them how to use Flipgrid in and outside of the classroom making accessible for all stakeholders on their own time.
Impact: Teachers enjoyed the freedom of doing a professional development online and on their own time. They were able to sit down and focus on the professional development and have the freedom to explore Flipgrid. They also enjoyed the interactions and the community aspect of Flipgrid. The teachers said they are definitely using it in their classroom. Reviewing the results of the professional development show that I am mastering ISTE standards 4a. and 4b.
4c. Collaborate with educators to design accessible and active digital learning environments that accommodate learner variability.
4d. Model the use of instructional design principles with educators to create effective digital learning environments.
Artifact Description: This Flipgrid was made for teachers to share their Ah-Ha moments that they had while using Flipgrid. This helps teachers build a community of other teachers that they will interact with and learn how to better use Flipgrid. Implementing the ISTE standards 4c. collaborate with educators to design accessible and active digital learning environments that accommodate learner variability and 4d. model the use of instructional design principles with educators to create effective digital learning environments. Flipgrid fit these two standards by being a digital tool that is a community and can accommodate variable learners. This also models the use in this community by sharing success they have had with Flipgrid.
Implementation: This Flipgrid was linked at the end of an online professional development for teachers to share out after they completed. II also shared this on Twitter to gain some more knowledge from other educators I went to school with and met through online. ISTE standards 4c. collaborate with educators to design accessible and active digital learning environments that accommodate learner variability and 4d. model the use of instructional design principles with educators to create effective digital learning environments guided me to reaching out to other educators to showcase better better designs of Flipgrid and create a more powerful learning environment.
Impact: Teachers gained from each others knowledge of Flipgrid strategies and designs. This helped grow the professional development to a bigger audience then if it was just my school. Teachers are also able to learn best practices quicker and can deploy better grids to students. Following the ISTE standards 4c. and 4d. was beneficial for teachers learning how to use Flipgrid in a digital learning environment and showcase better designs.
Reflection
These two artifacts, "Online Professional Development" and "Flipgrid Classroom Reflection" showcase my understanding of the ISTE coaching standards 4a. collaborate with educators to develop authentic, active learning experiences that foster student agency, deepen content mastery and allow students to demonstrate their competency, 4b. help educators use digital tools to create effective assessments that provide timely feedback and support personalized learning 4c. collaborate with educators to design accessible and active digital learning environments that accommodate learner variability, and 4d. model the use of instructional design principles with educators to create effective digital learning environments. These standards show my understanding of being a learner designer for educators and students. Creating new digital professional developments and online interactive learning communities help educators to continue to grow inside and outside of the classroom. I learned many new techniques through doing and pushing myself outside my comfort zone to build this professional development and community. Sharing those success with other educators will help them grow too.
