1-1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup salt
1/2 cup water

1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 cup water
2 Tbsp vegetable oil
1 tsp food coloring
Combine flour, salt, and cream of tartar in a saucepan. Mix the oil and food coloring with water and stir into the flour mixture. Cook over medium heat stirring constantly until a ball forms. Remove from heat and knead until smooth. Store in a covered container.
1 box cornstarch
1-1/2 - 2 cups water
food coloring (optional)
Add food coloring to water and then add to the cornstarch until it is semi-firm. Store covered in the refrigerator. As it becomes dry in storage and/or from handling, add water to soften it.
1 cup cornstarch
2 cups slat
1-1/3 cups cold water
Put the salt and 2/3 cup of water in a pot and bring to a boil. Mix cornstarch with the remaining water and stir well. Then blend the 2 mixtures and knead into clay. Clay will dry after several hours and can be painted. Keep unused portion in a ocvered container or plastic bag in the refrigerator.
Try finger painting with pudding, shaving cream (add food coloring), mud and water, yogurt, ketchup, mustard, or relish. Add things like sand, rice, or flour to change the textures of the paint.
