The history of the house 'Gwandoban', which means "place of rest" in Aboriginal dialect, was built in 1911 by David Lacey Jones, the grandson of the founder of the David Jones department stores.
The architecture typifies the Queensland colonial style with its wide verandas, high ceilings and ornate characteristics including pressed metal ceilings, a distinctive archway and magnificent lead light windows in the loungeroom.

The Kilkivan Great Horse Ride - April
Held annually on a Saturday in April close to Easter the Ride can have any where up to 1100 horses, riders and horse-drawn vehicles that start from five different points around Kilkivan, culminating with a grand parade through Kilkivan township at 4.00 p.m.

The Goomeri Pumpkin Festival - Last Sunday in May
The Goomeri Pumpkin Festival is held annually on the last Sunday in May. Visitors flock to the tiny town to enjoy the fun filled day which includes great entertainment, fun novelty competitions, delicious food and warm, friendly country hospitality.

Is now part of the amalgamated Gympie Regional Council made up of Kilkivan Shire Council, Cooloola Shire Council and Tiaro Shire Council Division three. The old Shire Council office is now a branch office for GRC.
