This unit focuses on students developing an artwork that communicates a specific message. This project focused on environmental issues and ocean organisms; combining art with science and building connections between students and the natural world.

Students started by choosing an ocean organism to focus on. Then they conducted research to gather key information on their organism, habitat, and evironmental issue. This information informed students' design when planning their painting.
Students then sketched their chosen design onto their canvases. Then they applied texture paste to one element of their piece.
EM_Ocean_ResearchWSNext students had 2 weeks of dedicated studio time to paint their artwork. During this time, students did feedback acitivites with peers to strenghten their work.
Students did a gallery interpretation activity. Here, students chose a peer's artwork and made an interpretation of the painting. Students had to provide evidence for their interpretation based on the visuals in the piece and the title.
