Ocean acidification is a chemical process that changes the properties of seawater and is known as climate change’s evil twin. When carbon dioxide from the atmosphere interacts with molecules of water it creates carbonic acid. This dissolves shells of organisms because of the reduction of calcium important to the rebuilding of skeletal structures like in coral, oysters, sea urchins, and crabs, and this then reduces the pH levels of seawater causing it to become more acidic. These levels also This acidification also pose a threat to the bleaching of coral. While the carbon dioxide is rising it also increases severe heat stress which causes the corals to lose their colors.
