Deforestation is the permanent removal of trees. Forests cover more than 30% of the Earth's land surface and these areas provide food, medicine, and fuel for more than a billion people. They also provide 13.4 million people with jobs in this sector, and another 41 million people have jobs related to forests. Forests house over 80% of biodiversity. They hold many important resources as well. They also hold and are an important resource for many around the world like firewood, timber, and charcoal. Over the past 25 years, places like Uganda have lost close to 63% of their forests. The loss of trees have/can also affect water quality and many other effects on the environment.
