The activity would be done after the class has gone over what a mineral is and the difference with rocks. After various examples of rocks and crystals that they can see in the class it would peak their interest which would lead to the worksheet. In this worksheet it has information about minerals. It talks about where minerals can be found in everyday places like jewelry, salt and many other places. In the other worksheet it talks about the formation of rocks. These worksheet help with both the readings and the question in giving the information needed for students.
Making crystals is the second activity to get more hands on projects while also practicing patients. This project has them seeing how a crystal forms in a period of time while also being aware that they made it and what materials were used. In the activity they need borax, hot water and pipe cleaners. Since it would be done in a classroom they can come in everyday and see how big their crystals have gotten, and after two weeks they will be able to take their crystals home and show their parents.
