What are your strengths as a student and as a teacher?
One of my strengths as a student is the ability to come up with solutions on the spot, which can be helpful when dealing with discussions and eventually leads to me doing research to keep updated with the fast pace change on the current events. As a teacher, one of my strengths is the ability to keep people engaged while talking about any topic, as long as I am also interested.
What are your weaknesses as a student and as a teacher?
Even though I claimed it to be one of my strengths coming up with solutions on the spot is also my weakness due to the fact that I can be unprepared for certain topics. Being unprepared makes me feel ignorant and unorganized which then develops into shame, discouragement, and unmotivated. I believe that the main weakness I have as a teacher would be the fact that I have never been a "teacher". I try to help my cousins with their homework, but that isn't really teaching.
What you feel most confident about when teaching Earth Science?
I feel the most confident about teaching Earth Science is the fact that I really enjoy random facts about earth and sometimes I like learning about how certain areas have so much diversity because a lake passes through it. There is also the fact that I love space and how vast and endless there is, there is also the Mar's space rover named Opportunity who was only supposed to last 3 months but ended up moving around for so much longer. Due to this excitement, I am confident that I can keep a class of small kids entertained.
What you feel most nervous about when teaching Earth Science?
The most nerve recking thing about teaching Earth Science is the aspects that I don't know, the information that I was supposed to retain throughout my student journey. The unknown is what makes me nervous and how would the kids react to my nervousness.
What are your personal goals for this class? What would you specifically like to have accomplished at the end of your semester?
I would love to accomplish the ability to be able to teach a subject to students. I am in my sophomore year but I feel like I don't have the experience others have. To be able to get out of my comfort zone and fears of teaching, in general, would be amazing because I want to be a role model and a mentor but I can't be that with my fears holding me back.
Anything else you can think of that you would like to record your thoughts and feelings here at the beginning of this journey.
The beginning of this journey has been scary. I started last year but I was not the best student but now I feel motivated and ready to leap off into a new start that will help me with my future. I was not ready and I even had my doubts with my major but now I am as ready as I can ever be.
How often have you been present in class? How focused on what is happening in class have you consistently been?
I have only missed about two classes this whole semester and even though that is still no good. However, I still try to catch up with the class by talking to my group members and checking the website. Even though sometimes my personal life can get chaotic and busy I try my best to at least read the textbook readings.
How many hours a week do you typically spend on this class? When thinking about your progress in this class, do you feel it is enough?

When you look back at the goals you set for yourself at the beginning, how do you feel you are coming on them?
Some of the goals that I had for the beginning of the semester are to get a better understanding of how to become a good teacher while also learning about the different ways earth science has an effect on the world.
We discussed the fact that this class was meant to help you practice a variety of skills useful to any future, not just oceanography. Which do you think you have had the most practice with due to class?

I was able to exhibit my personal strength of public speaking since we had to do some presentations and I felt pretty confident about it.

My weakest part of this class would be the memorization of the scientific terms of certain parts of the class.
Now that you have had a chance to contemplate your focus, time, and performance in this class, is there anything that you are planning to change for the rest of the semester?
I would like to change the aspect of not turning in the labs so from now on I will try my best to turn in the labs.
Is there anything else you would like to share regarding how you feel things are going at this point in the class?
I believe this class has brought up some of my strengths that I would have never thought I would need in life. I would like to appreciate dearly how this class has tested my weakness and turned them into strengths.

For this semester there have been about five times where I communicated with the professor in order to get clarification or when I had questions.
How do you think that your participation with the class and me may have impacted your knowledge and growth in this class?
I think because the class is ungraded and the professor is easy to talk to it really made me feel like I was learning without the stress. It boosted up my eagerness to learn rather than just focused on doing homework that really isn't memorable.

I honestly think my ePortfolio turned out to be really good even with the answers above there wasn't much of an impact on the quality of my portfolio.

The most proud accomplishment that I did this semester would be my SLO presentation and my ePortfolio.
When you look at the overall class, the entire semester, what is it that you most wish you could change or do differently?

With my current knowledge about the class objectives and the work done throughout the semester, I think I deserve a very low B or maybe even a C.
Do you think that your grade would match the grade I would give you? Why or why not?
I think it would because I understand that I haven't done much work in this class but I believe that I have been able to contribute to class discussions and been up to date with any given topic talked about in class.
Final Thoughts
Any last thoughts/reflections/comments on your personal work/participation/growth in this class?
I would like to say that I truly appreciate this class including the professor for being extremely flexible and understanding. Therefore, I think I was able to grow not only as a student but as a future educator because of this class. I really think this class has been able to prepare a little bit more to become the teacher I dream to become.
