Dr. Kevin Currie-Knight

I am a Teaching Associate Professor in East Carolina University's College of Education (Department of Special Education, Foundations, and Research. I teach classes in the "Foundations of Education." I am also the author of the book Education in the Marketplace: An Intellectual History of Pro-Market Libertarian Visions for Education in Twentieth Century America (Springer, 2019).

My areas of scholarly interest are in:

  • Philosophy of Education (namely, social and political philosophy of education)
  • History of American (K-12) Schooling
  • Political Economy of American K-12 Education (particularly around debates around school choice and markets in education)
  • Self-Directed Learning and Other "Libertarian" Ideas Around Teaching and Learning
