This section is dedicated to the memory of Yoichi Suzuki, the founder of Summit School of Languages in Mito, Ibaraki, Japan. His understanding of the needs of Japanese children, and the challenges of non-Japanese teachers living in a foreign country for the first time was what attracted many of us to work for him. Unfortunately, his untimely passing in May of 1990, left all of us, especially his wife, Miyoko, with the difficult task of sustaining his dream. Beyond the Summit School classrooms in Mito, Daigo and Tanagura, Fukushima, he also secured a contract to send teachers to work in the public schools in Daigo. His constant dedication to his school, to the community in Mito, in Tanagura, Fukushima and especially to the community in Daigo, his hometown, lives on not only in our memories, but in the language skills of thousands of children and adults. I personally owe all of my skills and perspective as an educator to him, for giving me a chance to work at his school.Â
