If you are a visitor or fellow contributor to the site and have local knowledge, any feed-back would be well received.
I have shown some of my favourite pictures in my profile, like old farmhouses, local shops, historical buildings and anything to do with Omagh. I have pictured places in most parts of the British Isles, including England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic.
Any image that I have submitted to this website is intended to be a matter of geographical or historical record only and should not be interpreted as representing any personal views, for or against the subject involved. It is part of my hobby, and I do not stand to achieve personal gain for my pictures. If anything gives offence, it is not intentional on my part and if I have submitted any misleading facts, I would welcome any corrections.
]Cameras used are a Olympus SP-590UZ, a Olympus C-750, a Finepix A820 and a Olympus E-300. The C-750 took the first batch of images, but was laid to rest when it developed several major faults after extensive use. The SP-590UZ is starting to behave very well, I wasn't as struck on it at the start, but the pictures of late are starting to match the C-750 for sharpness. The only complaint with it is that the exposures are not true on the long 26 x zoom and it struggles somewhat on micro settings. I have recently added a Nikon Coolpix p510 to my collection
This has been an enjoyable hobby for me and it has occupied a lot of my time, and has been a learning experience. Whilst the main purpose of taking pictures is for geographical and historical purposes, stress was never put on producing good quality images. Never the less, one's efforts could be judged on the finished product, so after I have downloaded the day's shoot, I would look at each image to see if it can be enhanced slightly as the rules of the competition allows. The main criteria is that the picture appearing on geograph should be as the eye can see it. Certain things cannot be corrected like blurred images, so if in doubt, copy the professionals - take plenty of shots.
From time to time, I get emails from people who are tracing their roots, though genealogy is not what geograph is about. I get requests to go out and take more photographs of old homesteads or to go and look up records, but it must be understood that you can only do so much. In some cases, I can advise them to contact the local District Council Offices, who hold the records of these things. I also get asked to provide pictures for money, which is something you something you can's put a price on. How do you calculate one's time, equipment and travel costs? All is ask is that if someone uses my material, is that I get properly acknowledged for my efforts, with a mention of my name beside the photo or a link made to it on geograph
