Preparing for Kindergarten is important. When kids feel ready, they can accomplish so much more! So what should your child be able to do? What will help them be successful?
Teach your child to dress on their own. Even when it is faster to just help them or do it for them, try to encourage them to try it and problem-solve on their own. They should be able to put their own shoes/boots, snow pants, coats, hats, and gloves on. Your child should know how to tie shoes or not wear shoes that tie. You child should be able to zip/button their own coat.
Teach your child to open simple packages and containers. If you are able, practice opening milk cartons. We use the saying "pinch, pinch, pull" and "pinch, pinch, tear" to teach these skills.
Students should begin to recognize the letters in their name and be exposed to other letters. There are tons of amazing learning videos online to listen to and begin to learn letters. Apps that work on letter knowledge or tracing letter and number books are great also! The Dollar Tree often has tracing practice, TEMU is a great place to find some, or you can print from online as well. Here are some of my favorite You Tube channels and websites:
