K-8 Certification & Special Education K-21
I started teaching with a high interest in teaching kids with Autism. Then, while student teaching, I fell in love with teaching students with extreme behaviors. I taught at Children's Home Society for 5 years before choosing to teach elementary education in public school. I went on to teacher Special Education in the resource room at Irene-Wakonda Elementary.
Leadership
I lead through example in the classroom. One of my goals is to create exceptional leaders in the classroom.
Trauma-Informed
I have completed ACES training through the University of Sioux Falls and continue to educate myself and others about the importance of a trauma-informed classroom environment.
Relationship Building
One of my strongest beliefs is that kids need to feel a sense of belonging in order to be able to learn and have success in the classroom. By building relationships with my students and promoting positive relationships with classmates, students can become curious, ask questions, and be comfortable to learn.
Creativity
One of my favorite parts of teaching is creating fun and different lesson plans. I hope to start a Podcast with my students some day.
Time Management & Organization
I use my time wisely so that I can get as much done as possible. In order to do this, organization is key.
Flexibility
In my past school environments, I have been willing to change classrooms on short notice in order to provide kids with the best opportunity to learn.
Empathy & Patience
Through my experiences at Children's Home Society, I have learned the art of both empathy and patience. I have learned that these skills are both necessary for building true relationship with kids.
Data Driven Instructional & Goal Writing
I developed strong data analysis skills through active participation in the International IEP Membership, ongoing collaboration with colleagues in SFSD who model efficient data practices, and focused summer online coursework. I use assessment and progress‑monitoring data to identify patterns, set measurable baseline targets, and write attainable IEP goals tied to each student’s demonstrated growth. This approach ensures instruction is responsive, progress is tracked clearly, and goals are realistic yet ambitious.
